Spring Cleaning again

I have been very busy that past couple of weekends, so a major spring cleaning has not happened yet. But I can do small manageable tasks along the way to make it feel more organized and fresher. Now if we could just get some spring weather, I would be happy.

My daughter & I tackled my main drawer in the bathroom. She knew she would be getting some things that I never use, so she willingly helped me. We started by washing all the hair and make-up brushes that we both had. You know all those trial sized bottles of Johnson & Johnson's baby shampoo that we all got for free with the $1.00 coupons, well that is perfect for washing brushes. We washed two hair brushes and about eleven make-up brushes with half a bottle of shampoo. Make sure to rinse the brushes VERY well to get all the shampoo out of them. There is nothing better than a squeaky clean hair brush.

This is a picture of my drawer before we started cleaning it. I am a little embarrassed at how cluttered and dirty it is. But I wanted to show a true before and after. I had little metal holders, but the eye liners and brushes kept sliding through the holes in the sides of them. So Ali gained two metal containers for her make-up, and I threw out sooooo much stuff. I only kept things that I either used every day, or on special occasions. My eyes have a reaction to mascara, and I don't wear lipstick very much, so those are my special occasion items.

Here is what I ended up with. I bought a cheap ($4.49) silverware storage system at Target, and sorted item by which part of the face they are for. Eye liners, lipsticks, foundations, eye shadows etc... I really like how it turned out. If you are thinking about using a silverware container for storage, be sure to measure the inside of the drawer, and bring the tape measure to the store with you. That way you will get the correct size the first time. I am sure dollar stores and thrift stores probably have these too, so be on the lookout.
What did you spring clean this past weekend?

My littlest one and myself were on a two day power shop to get ready for me going back to work next week. I have been running low on food, due to barely shopping for food the month of September. I have plenty of Cheez-its and Pop-Tarts, but needed more substantial food to get us by.

With all the stores added together (except Savers) I figured I saved at least 50% on my two full day of shopping. We did also spend under $10 at Wendy's for lunch.

I think I should be well stocked up for awhile now. I have tons in the freezer, and I need to reorganize my pantry again. I need to keep it clean, due to some of my closest friends teasing me about it (Jenny & Tal). I am not going to apologize for having a organized pantry. It is one thing in my life that stays organized. Only because I am the only one who cooks in my house, unless it involves a grill. So nobody goes into the pantry except me.

And if all that wasn't enough in the past two days. I also picked up kids from school, spent one half day at pre-school for parents day, drove to dance twice, spent an afternoon with my parents and attended two school conferences. I AM POOPED! Today I get to clean the whole house too!

I am having a mini vacation for MEA weekend. My parents are taking all three kids to their cabin for two nights. I love MEA weekend. The kids normally go and help with the leaves. Their property is filled with giant black oaks, and the leave piles end up being at least 5 feet tall. The weather report for up north calls for cold and possible flurries. Oh well, I will be at home in a clean, well stocked house!

Also, for those of you who know me, and know my pets, you know my dogs don't eat canned foods. And my cat doesn't eat treats either. I have been getting so much free pet foods, I have been saving them up in a huge box. At Christmas time the kids and I will bring the box to the local Humane Society for donation. I will be updating y'all about the many donations we will be doing throughout the Christmas season.

Am I feeding my childs addiction?

I think the answer is yes.

My youngest boy is addicted to Pop-Tarts. So much so that I have to put them on the high shelf so he doesn't keep "helping himself" to more of them when I am not looking.

Well with the great sale at Target this week, I was doomed. I have taken a picture of my purchases, and I will post it as soon as my regular computer is working. (I am using the kids computers in the mean time) I ended up with 44 boxes of Pop-Tarts! Yes, you saw right 44 boxes, of the 12 count boxes. That comes to 528 individual Pop-Tarts! The best part is I only paid $35 and some change for them all.

I have them hidden as best I can in my walk in pantry right now, so little hands can't get them. But I am afraid it is only a matter of time before he finds them. (Imagine a cartoon light burst around them as his eyeballs are popping three feet out of his head) At that point I will have to find a higher up hiding place for them. I am hoping that they should last right through the New Year. We are still working on 6 more boxes of Honey Bunches of Oats too.
I will post the picture as soon as my computer is working.

How many Pop-Tarts did y'all end up with?

Not sure about the Pop-Tart deal at Target? Well, when you buy 4 boxes of 12 count Pop-Tarts for 4/$9 you get a $5 Target gift card. You can also use the Target $.50 coupon for Pop-Tarts here. Be sure to print as many coupons as Pop-Tarts you plan to buy. So if you do a few transactions in a row, using the gift cards you got in the previous transaction, they end up costing $2/4 boxes. Plus there were manufacture coupons in the paper a few weeks ago that you can stack with the Target coupons.

So that is why I am stocking up on them. I just hope I can keep him from finding them as long as possible.

Fraudulent Target Coupon

I had e-mailed my closest friends last week with a $5/$25 Target coupon. I am sorry to say that they are fraudulent coupons and will not be accepted at Target.

Somebody took a real coupon for toys and doctored up the coupon on their own computer and started e-mailing it to everybody. At work today I had to explain this to over a dozen people, and nobody was very happy about it.

Please tell your friends that if they have these $5/$25 coupons for Target they are fake and will not be accepted at Target stores.

Web Coupon Wednesday

Here are some of the web coupons for you to print at home:

$1.00 Kelloggs cereals (use at Target this week!)

$1.00 Rice Krispies w/ Strawberries (use at Target this week!)

$.75 Fiber One (different flavors)

I bought 10 boxes of Kellogg's cereal at Target this week. We ended up using 2 Rice Krispie w/ Strawberry coupons, and 2 shredded mini wheats coupons. The kids picked other flavors they would eat. I think they picked their flavors just because they had free light up spoons in the box, but they have been eating them. We got 2 $5 gift cards for buying so many boxes, and that helped pay for the milk!

Hopefully you will find coupons for the kinds of cereal that your family eats on a regular basis. Buy them on sale and use your coupons!

How I did this Week

Here is a break down on my shopping trips this week. I did one great deal at Target with the above picture. I got peanut butter, raisins, loaf of bread, Organix conditioner (try me free hang tag, I will send in for the free rebate check), 2 All small & mighty, 2 trial Tylenol, 2 trial Clean & Clear, 2 trial Butt Paste, one bottle of water (for break) and 1 Starbucks candy bar. After the rebate I paid $2.24 for everything. So basically for the price of the raisins, I got everything else for free. We really needed the peanut butter that day too!

The next day I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. I got two 10 pound bags of flour for $1.24! That's for both of them. They were marked with an "as is" ticket, but the only thing I could see was a little wear on the bags. These got popped right into the freezer, and we should have lots of fresh cookies all summer long.

Thursday night I was in the right place at the right time again. I got these two jars of pickles for $.76 each. They had about 10 jars, but we have never tried the black pepper & garlic before. If I knew for sure that my family liked the flavor I probably would have bought them all. So we will try these two, and see how it goes.
I also did a huge County Market trip on Wednesday. You can check out the post here. I ended up spending a little over $101 and saved 47% on my order. We are now stocked up for the month, and I should only have to go out for milk, produce and bread.
How did you do this week? Leave a comment.
